Due to the current situation with COVID-19 and the recommendations by the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association, we must make the difficult decision to drastically reduce operation. Effective Monday, March 23rd -Friday, April 3rd we will be only be scheduling patients on an emergency basis. Our hours of operation during this time will be Tuesday-Thursday 9am-3pm.

The health and safety of our patients and community is our number one priority, and we are doing our part to best minimize the spread of this virus. We are diligently working to contact everyone to reschedule their appointment to a later date.

As the status of COVID-19 is constantly changing, we will provide updates regarding our office hours and services as soon as we are able. We encourage our patients to call regarding appointment status and/or questions at 605-624-6291.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and appreciate your understanding and patience during this difficult time.

Find out why your teeth are still stained despite good oral care.

Do you brush twice a day for at least two minutes each time? If so, you are certainly doing what you need to in order to keep your smile healthy. Brushing can help keep away plaque and bacteria that cause decay and gum disease; however, you may notice that even though you are doing a great job of brushing that your smile still seems yellow and dull. If so, you may be wondering how this is possible. Your Vermillion cosmetic dentist has the answer.Dental stains

How often do you brush?

While it is recommended that you brush only twice a day, if you are drinking or eating anything that could cause stains then you will want to brush immediately after to ensure that your teeth aren’t exposed to the chemicals for longer than they need to be. Certain stain-producing culprits include tea, coffee, wine, berries, and dark sauces and condiments. Don’t wait until bedtime to brush! Pull out your toothbrush right after consuming these foods and drinks to keep dental stains to a minimum.

Are you a smoker?

If you are a smoker than you may notice that this habit has caused some rather serious yellow and brown stains on your teeth. You can blame nicotine and tar for this aesthetic problem. What makes matters worse is that these stains, unfortunately, cannot be removed through simple brushing. You don’t even have to be a long-time smoker to experience yellowing teeth.

It’s all in the family

Sometimes, what it boils down to is simply genetics. Some people are just lucky enough to have whiter teeth than others. However, age can also play a role in yellowing teeth. Enamel begins to thin out as you get older and that’s when you may notice that your smile appears less bright. Also, oddly enough, redheads are more susceptible to yellow teeth than others and it has to do with the fact that one layer that makes up the tooth’s enamel—the ectoderm—is actually thinner in redheads.

While good oral hygiene is definitely a vital component to a healthy smile, there are certain things only your dentist can do to give you the brighter smile you want. If you want to find a cosmetic dentist in Vermillion that can give you the best smile possible, then call us today to schedule your next appointment. Our professional dental cleanings can brighten and refresh smiles; however, for those more determined stains, we also offer professional teeth whitening. Ask about our whitening system the next time you visit.
