Same Day Crowns Promise Convenience

Whether you cracked your tooth on a lunchtime snack or during a vicious football tackle, it can be stressful when something happens to your Dental Crownsbeautiful smile. Of course anytime something happens to the integrity of your teeth it’s important to come in right away to see your dentist; however, the idea of multiple visits and extensive treatments might keep you from grabbing your coat and heading right to our office. But what if we were to tell you that we could fix severe chips, cracks and breaks all in one visit? Here at Knutson Family Dentistry we’re all about efficiency, so you can get back to doing what you love most.

You might remember the traditional crowns that we put on teeth to protect against further decay or wear and tear. These porcelain caps go over the top of your natural tooth to improve not only aesthetics but also the tooth’s functionality. Typically this process takes two visits: one visit to make impressions of the tooth and submit the details to a lab for fabrication, and the second visit in which we actually put on the crown on; however, with CEREC’s revolutionary technology we are now able to offer our patients same day crowns. So what exactly are same day crowns and what are the advantages? Your dentist is here to tell you why this treatment plan might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. CEREC incorporates CAD/CAM technology to create a natural-looking crown in no time. CEREC equipment consists of a camera, computer and milling machine (for crown fabrication).

What should I expect from my appointment?

Instead of taking impressions like dentists used to when you got crowns, with CEREC we use its state-of-the-art camera to take pictures of the damaged tooth. This photo is then transferred to a computer screen where your Vermillion dentist can use the CAD technology to design your crown. Once designed, the CAM technology is used to create the crown while the patient waits. When the crown is finished, we will bond the new cap to the top of your old tooth, restoring your smile’s function and appearance.

How long does the process take?

The process might seem a bit in-depth but it actually only takes an hour, which isn’t much different from when you come in for your dental cleaning. This advanced technology can revive a cracked smile in no time.
